Thanks to Royal-warranted car-care specialists Autoglym, reigning British GT Champion Michael Caine is all set to add a polished finish to the Addison Lee Motorbase squad as the Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship (BTCC) hits the North East’s Croft circuit this coming weekend (June 22/23).
Caine makes a one-off return to the BTCC straight off the back of a hard fought race victory in the Avon Tyres British GT at Snetterton last weekend (June 15/16) and has been drafted in by Team Boss David Bartrum as the perfect wing man for the debut of the highly anticipated third Motorbase next generation touring car (NGTC) Ford Focus ST. Running in a distinctive Autoglym livery, the latest car marks the culmination of a serious commitment to BTCC from the Letchworth-based firm – which already supports and sponsors many leading teams and drivers within the series.
Motorbase Performance Team Principal David Bartrum commented: “It’s great to get the opportunity to race the third Motorbase NGTC and we’re really looking forward to seeing what Michael can do in the Focus this weekend; especially coming off the back of such a great weekend with our first GT race win.”
Following a successful test run at Snetterton earlier in the month; the third Mountune-powered Ford Focus ST NGTC will make its maiden race appearance in the stunning red, white and black livery of leading British Car Care Company Autoglym. The livery highlights one of Autoglym’s class leading and innovative products; LifeShine. This clever suite of products offers proud car owners an advanced system of protective treatments to keep their car in top condition for the lifetime of their ownership, allowing paintwork, upholstery and glass to maintain an ‘as new’ demeanour for many years. This not only increases resale value, but significantly adds to the pride and pleasure of ownership.
Commenting on the sponsorship of the newest addition to the Addison Lee Motorbase squad, Autoglym CEO Paul Caller said; “We have a long and successful history with Motorbase, and with Michael at the wheel, I’m sure this will be a competitive package. LifeShine is a very important range for us, and with the profile that BTCC brings, and the results we know the team can deliver, I’m sure that it’s the perfect way to convey our message. The white heat of competition also proves to be a wonderful test-bed for all of our products, too!”
Bartrum added: “Autoglym have been a great supporter of the Motorbase Performance team for a number of years now and we’re delighted to have them on-board in such a big way for the new NGTC’s debut appearance.”
“Like us, they constantly strive for the perfect finish every time; and with any luck we can put a shine on their weekend with a good set of race results.”
The weekend’s racing also marks a welcome return to the BTCC for 43 year old Caine following his debut for the Motorbase run-squad in 2011; and the Newmarket-based driver is relishing the opportunity to get back out on the grid once more: “I absolutely loved it the last time out – so if this weekend can be as good as that, then brilliant. I’d like to say a massive thanks to Autoglym and everybody else that has been involved and helped to make this happen.”
Caine added: “I’m really looking forward to being able to support the team once again, and hopefully we get the results that they deserve this weekend.”
