“Braveheart” Kev Coghlan conquers Spain

Last Sunday, in front of 24,000 fans, three motorcycling events took place at the sun-drenched circuit of Jerez. The CEV Buckler Spanish championships held its penultimate race of the season with three championship title deciding outcomes on the boil.
After a dominating season In the Supersport category, Scottish rider Kevin Coghlan (Joe Darcey Racing Team), needed to be placed 7th place to get 8 points and secure the title for himself. This, as it turned out, was not necessary as the only competitor with a chance of catching him points wise, Spaniard Ivan Moreno (Andalucía Cajasol), had to retire after the first few laps with mechanical problems. Kev Coghlan eventually took 4th place and won the championship crown.
Celebrating the team’s victory in the Honda garage after the race, team manager Gerard Roche said that he was over the moon with his team’s performance and that the Spanish title was the result he had dreamed of during the years of hard work forming Spanish based Joe Darcey racing team.
The Supersport race was won by Xavi Simeon (Holiday Gym Racing) his first Podium, ahead of Adrian Bonastre (Yamaha Spain) with Yonny Hernandez Suzuki Motorrad) completing the 1-2-3.
Drama unfolded in both the 125GP and Extreme/Moto2 races, Spanish titles was available for the taking on Sunday. In the 125GP class Alberto Moncayo (Andalucía Aprilia) only needed to finish ahead of Maverick Vinales (Blusens BQR) to be crowned Spanish champion. Moncayo, having ridden an intelligent race in the top 3 positions throughout, had to retire after he was crashed into by Patrick Jacobsen (Team Aspar CEV-Curva).
In the Extreme/Moto2 race, Javier Del Amor and team-mate Carmelo Morales (Siemens Gigaset Laglise) collided in the final lap after Del Amor broke late, Morales did not crash but lost his chance of winning and taking the Spanish title. Morales and 125GP rider Moncayo must now wait until Valencia to be crowned champions of Spain.
